Ok, so I mentioned the large spread. Well here's what Johnny ended up eating for Thanksgiving dinner. He held the same piece of turkey in his mouth the entire meal just so he wouldn't have to take another bite.

Family

Family, Food, Football & Fun. This is what made up our holiday. We spent Thanksgiving this year in Park City, UT at Jo's house. There were 9 of us and a huge spread that fed us for the next couple of days. Including 6 pies, yes 6 pies for 9 people (really 7, because the kids don't count when it comes to pies). It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without lots of PIE! And can I just say, I LOVE MY NEW CAMERA! I just got my Nikon D40 and I took so many pictures, it was too hard to choose which to post so I'm making 4 Thanksgiving posts with lots of cute pictures! Enjoy!

A tid bit on Alex

Ok so Alex is getting a pretty new dress from her Grammie this birthday and of course a pretty new dress needs pretty new shoes. Well, even though her birthday is still s a couple of weeks away Alex needed new church shoes now. So my Mom mailed the shoes out early and sent Alex an email telling her that they were on the way. Alex checked the mail every day for a package and then one day we passed the mail man on our way through the subdivision and as we pulled into our garage he pulled up with a packaged label "Alex Day". Alex was so excited and the excitement only grew when she saw the sparkly ballet style shoes inside. She wears them all day every day. The other day I woke up before the kids and I was downstairs when I hear Alex wake up and make her way down the stairs. When I saw her she was in her pjs with the pig tails still in from the day before and her new shoes on over her socks. Oh how I wish I had the camera handy, she was so cute. I told her that they are church shoes and can't be worn out all the time. When I told her that I was sick and Johnny and I were staying home from church today she made sure her Dad was still going to church so she could wear her new shoes out. Thanks Grammie, she LOVES them!

Also, I have been debating whether I should throw Alex a friend party or a family party with all of our family that lives out here. Brad and I would rather have a family party and skip the crazy friend party. But I was afraid Alex would be sad, she's been waiting for her birthday to come along for so long after seeing other friends turn 5 and wanting a princess party of her own. Finally I decided I would ask her. Right away she said "friend party" and I wasn't surprised at all. Then yesterday Brad said that Alex asked him what kind of party he was going to have for her. He wasn't sure what she was talking about and asked what kind of party she wanted (guessing she was thinking about a theme or something). Then she told him that Mom told her that she could have a friend party or a family party and that she would like to have a family party. I was surprised by this but thought I'd let her think about it for awhile before asking. Then today over lunch she told me that she thinks a family party would be a lot more fun because she wants her aunts to be there. Obviously she's been thinking about this and usually once Alex makes her mind up about something she sticks with it. We'll see, I won't make any plans just yet. I just thought it was sweet that after thinking about it she would rather have her family around for her special day.

Stop, Drop and Roll

Last week we took Alex's preschool group to the fire station for a field trip. I always love this field trip because even as an adult, I love checking out the fire truck. And I loved seeing Johnny's eyes light up when he saw the lights flash or hearing Alex exclaim "cooooool!" when they opened the door on the truck revealing all their axes. We had the same guy give us the tour this year as we did last year, Firefighter Smilie. Last year was one of his first tours and he showed the kids the work out room, their bedrooms, he crawled on the floor with them and stop dropped and rolled with them. This year he was a more seasoned tour guide and said "all they really want to see is the fire engine." I guess he's right, but I loved the pictures of the kids rolling on the floor next to this big fire fighter. Anyway, the kids asked lots of questions and got to see him dress down in all his gear. Johnny spent most of the time inside the fire truck and Alex wanted them to open every door on the truck to see what was kept there. It's a good thing Johnny is starting preschool next year so I'll still have an excuse to visit the fire house!

Happy Halloween!!!

Halloween has come and gone, but it isn't really gone is it? You still have stashes of candy the the kids can't seem to forget about for more than 5 minutes. And how long will it take me to get around to taking my Halloween decorations down? I loved Halloween night though, Alex had so much fun at the trunk or treat and it gave us a chance to see all of our friend's kids dressed up all cute. We ere planning on calling it quits after that but she really wanted to knock on a few doors. It wasn't as cold as has been in the past so I agreed to take her around the neighborhood a little and she ran from house to house with an enthusiastic "Trick or Treat" and automatic "Thank You" for everyone who answered their door. We didn't arrange to go around with any friends but she didn't seem to mind. We paired up with our neighbor girl for a little while but they turned around and started back home a lot sooner than Alex was ready for. She didn't seem to mind being on her own as long as her goal for a heavy trick or treat bag was fulfilled. She was a fairy on a mission. And Johnny seemed quite content to stay at home and help pass candy out to all the witches and goblins who knocked on our door. When I got home and saw him in action it was really quite cute. He had it down. As soon as I opened the door he had the basket of candy in one hand and a handful of candy bars in the other ready to drop in the first trick or treat bag. It was a fun night for the kids and now I just have to figure out a way to slowing make the piles of candy diminish without eating it all myself. Hope you all had a "Happy Halloween!"
